Blackstone Ranch Instistute

The ranch operation is dedicated to environmentally sustainable practices. Its buildings and grounds were designed to be energy efficient and ecological. There are solar panels, a roof rainwater-catchment system and an ecological waste-treatment plant. The main building is heated by geothermal energy.

The grounds also include a Southwest-style lodge, a guesthouse with a meditation room, and a greenhouse using ecological methods. Numerous paths allow guests to wander among the streams, ponds and pastures, and take in the exceptional views of the mountains surrounding Taos.

The property is home to a small population of ranch animals, which includes horses, cows, donkeys, buffalo, and alpaca. In addition, the ranch’s wetlands, streams, and ponds provide a refuge for numerous bird species, including hawks, ibis, golden eagles, and blue herons. Coyotes can be heard howling at night.

Known worldwide for its enchanting beauty and rich cultural heritage, Taos has been an inspiration for many of the world’s leading thinkers and artists. Taos Pueblo, the oldest continuously occupied village in North America, is a World Heritage site.
