Formation of National Urban Sustainability Directors Network
Chicago, Illinois
Global Philanthropy Partnership

The Global Philanthropy Partnership is working with a small group of urban sustainability directors to create a national urban sustainability director's network of 75 municipalities around the United States. The network will use teleconferencing, a website, work groups, and an annual meeting to share knowledge and work together to achieve their sustainability goals.

The initiative has its origins in the first gathering of urban sustainability directors that was co-sponsored by Blackstone Ranch Institute and the Rocky Mountain Institute in November 2006.

The network will be formed at a national gathering in Chicago, where participants will join working groups that will focus on specific issues that include performance measurement, energy efficiency in buildings, green jobs, climate action planning, green procurement, waste reduction, transition oriented development, and public and community engagement.

Blackstone Ranch Institute is one of a group of co-sponsors which includes the Surdna Foundation, the Home Depot Foundation, and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund.
